Using Quicktime to Record Audio

Quicktime for Windows is no longer support by Apple. We recommend using Audacity or PowerPoint to record audio on a Windows computer.

Pre-Recording Preparation

Before you start recording make sure that you follow the steps below.

  1. On your computer, silence all notifications and close any app that may produce sound
  2. Make sure you are recording in a private quiet area that will be free from any extraneous noise
Step 1:

Connect your Microphone to your computer

Open up System Preferences

Select Sound, then Input, and then the microphone you connected

Step 4:

Speak into the microphone and adjust the Input Volume so the meter tops out at roughly the 2/3 mark

Step 5:

Open up Quicktime

Step 6:

Go to the top menu and choose File > New Audio Recording

Step 7:

Click the Red record button to start recording, but make sure to double-check that Quicktime is using the correct microphone and select Maximum Quality.

Step 8:

Click the Red record button to stop recording

Step 8:

Go to the top menu and choose File > Save and save your recording. Make sure to give it a descriptive title as it will be easier to keep track of your recordings.
